Question: How can I perform advanced networking functions through an ASP page, such as SNMP, FTP, WhoIs lookups, etc.? [ Print this FAQ]
Answer: Unfortunately ASP does not support any sort of networking features inherently. For example, if you want to issue an HTTP request from an ASP page and work with the resulting HTML you have to use a third-party component. Therefore, it should not come as a surprise that to perform even more advanced networking features you will have to also rely on a third-party component. Thankfully there are a plethora of third-party components that offer all sorts of networking utlities. A comprehensive list of such networking components can be found here. If you are looking for a component to perform a specific networking task, check out one of these categories: -- DNS Components ( or check out ) this FAQ -- FTP Components -- Ping Functions ( or check out ) this article -- WhoIs Functionality Happy Programming!
